The Blessing of Giving
As United Methodists, we are called to faithfully participate in the ministries of the church by our prayers, our presence, our gifts and our service. To belong to our congregation is to be a steward. Some may say that “stewardship” is just a polite way of referring to financial giving to the church. But it’s far more than that.
Giving is a biblical principal that when lived by, produces a rich harvest in our lives. Giving is not limited to simply our finances; it’s a lifestyle. When we live with the spirit of giving, when we give the Lord our tithes and our offerings, when we give to those in need, when we give of our time, our love, our resources, we are sowing seeds that God will make sure blossoms into a rich harvest!
Here we have the basic motivation behind all Christian giving: we share what we have with others because, as believers, we are called to be imitators of God (Ephesians 5:1) – in other words, joyous, generous, and faithful givers. Our goal and purpose in this life is to open our hearts to the Lord so that the resources of His love can flow through our hands directly into the lives of others.
The important thing is that we live with the spirit of giving. God is more concerned with the condition of your heart as you give, rather than the quantity. It is through our giving where the greatest blessings and provision can be seen.
As a connectional church (to other United Methodist churches), our local contributions have regional, national and international impact. Most of our money supports our local church and community, but a portion goes to the general church to fund programs beyond our reach.
