The Home Selection
In this lesson, we start to understand how much home repair is needed in Appalachia, and how important our work is. We are grateful that ASP staff selects the homes that we will work on, and makes all the plans for the work. Each summer, ASP can only assist one out of five families. Resources of time and volunteers run out after the allotted seven or eight week program and those on the “no” list are left in the same shape as when they applied. There is a great deal of sadness over this fact. In this exercise, volunteers will encounter similar challenges that summer staff face as they must prayerfully decide which clients receive services in the summer program.
We will end the evening with snacks and an exciting game of dodgeball!
