FELLOWSHIP HALL RENOVATION PROJECT UPDATE

A HUGE THANK YOU TO THE VOLUNTEERS WHO HELPED TO DATE!  ALSO, A BIG THANKS TO ALL OF THE CONTRACTORS WHO HAVE DONATED MATERIALS AND LABOR.  A list of “all” will be generated at the end of the project.

The planned renovation work included: painting of all walls & ceilings, ceiling tile replacement, floor asbestos removal, new vinyl flooring, removal of large petition doors, new kitchen counters tops and air conditioning scheduled for next Spring.

The original project scope included renovation of Fellowship Hall, the kitchen, the utility room, and the outside hall.  We have now added asbestos removal, new flooring and painting of the West stairs and both landings.  It was discussed that the additional upgrade of these areas makes sense now rather than later as it would be more costly to bring the contractors back again.  The project is on schedule and the only unanticipated expense was to replace (4) doors and framing in Fellowship Hall due to unforeseen water damage.  One door is being patched, sanded, and refinished.

The majority of the painting will be completed by 12/15.  The floor and stairs asbestos removal is scheduled to begin on 12/18 and the new flooring installation begins on 12/26.  The kitchen countertops will also be installed in late December and the final cleanup and “move back” will be either the first or second week of January.

We believe the newly renovated areas will truly be enjoyable for all.  Whether it be meeting, greeting, eating, or teaching, the surroundings will be a welcome high-quality upgrade for years to come.  Costs for the original project have been largely covered through a 2020 donation (less the installation of the four new doors).

We have some “seed money” at this time, but more funds will be needed as the asbestos removal and safety tread stair flooring is more costly when compared to the “flat” flooring cost.  Additionally, we’d like to raise enough funds now for the air conditioning installation that is planned for this Spring.  We are asking for year-end or New Years donations to complete this exciting improvement.  Pray that we can fund this completely within the next few weeks.

Thank you,
CUMC TRUSTEES

Funds were donated by Church members several years ago for the renovation of Fellowship Hall as it is a highly used activity room within our Church that is in disrepair.  The renovation was delayed during Covid. But now in fairness to those that donated the funds, the Leadership Board has decided work will begin in mid-September with a tentative completion before year’s end.  No Church operating funds are required for the upgrade of this room.

Small groups that currently use the room should begin to find alternative space for this period of time. Please note the closets will NOT be accessible during construction.  It is planned that the Christmas decorations will be moved downstairs and stored in one of the rooms.  Other groups with supplies in the closets need to contact Dale McCartney for assistance in moving their supplies downstairs.   A firm date to begin construction will be announced later this month.
